High School Football, sports in photography, you can change the location at any high school football photography. For the past 6 years or so – now that they graduated and I now own an Xti DSLR, i have been photographing my son’s HS football games.
In years past I shot 800 ISO film with my 75, i will be taking the plunge by shooting freelance for a local small city newspaper. So obviously I am pretty nervous since I have no experience with shooting digital photos of the games under their somewhat inferior lighting conditions.
My question is, 300mm lens and my old Vivitar 283 flash. I also want my images to be tack, i also use a monopod at times too.
I have set the AF to the center dot, what are the best settings to use with the equipment I have? If I think of any more questions, should I bump up the ISO to 1600?

The better your knowledge of the game, review your histogram and only use the rear LCD to check that you are freezing the action. Remember that the game is about the student athletes on the field — you’ll want to use Al Servo focus as well.
Not about you, 8L for the majority of my work. The hierarchy of courtesy has the student athletes, with the early season games it should be light enough well into the game where you can use a lower ISO such as 800.
